Zinedine

Sire: Guidam
Dam sire: Heartbreaker
Studbook: KWPN
Height: 168cm
Date of birth: 2004
Colour: Chestnut
WFFS: Negative

Unparalleled jumping ability, power off the ground, and careful!

Zinedine, ridden by Ludger Beerbaum, collected numerous wins and placings, first in the international Youngster Tours of Rotterdam (NED), Aachen, Münster and Paderborn. This was followed by runner-up finishes in the Grand Prix events of Paris (FRA) and London (GBR), as well as fourth and fifth place finishes in the Grand Prix of Chantilly (FRA) and Shanghai (CHN), along with further top results at World Cup shows in Zurich (SUI), Stuttgart and Leipzig.

Right from the start, Zinedine’s offspring exceeded even the highest expectations. From his very first crop he produced Zineday, Vice European Champion, Global Champions League winner and Olympic competitor with Philipp Weishaupt. Zinedream, ridden by David Will, OS licensing champion and one of twelve licensed sons of Zinedine, won the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi (UAE). Other offspring already successful up to 1.60m include Zealand with Jens Baackmann, Zidan with Eoin McMahon (IRL), Zinano G with Tim Rieskamp-Goedeking, as well as Zeppelin and Zac S.

His sire, Guidam (by Quidam de Revel), produced numerous top-level sport horses and was named Stallion of the Year in the Netherlands in 1996. His dam, Unadonja, was successful herself up to 1.45m with Shane Sweetnam (IRL), and also produced the 1.60m jumper Orwell SCF (by Diktator van de Boslandhoeve), as well as several other sport horses. His Holsteiner dam sire, Heartbreaker, ranked for many years among the top ten sires in the WBFSH rankings of the world’s best jumping stallions. In the third generation appears the Holsteiner stallion Burggraaf (by Landgraf I – Cor de la Bryère).

Breeding advice

Zinedine is a particularly interesting stallion for substantial, slightly heavier mares that need more blood, athleticism and modern jumping technique. He is a “refine and energise the substantial mare” stallion.

Zinedine is a good choice when the mare needs:

  • More blood and refinement
  • More energy and athleticism
  • Scope and carefulness
  • A modern, elegant jumping model
  • More quickness and reactivity
  • A stronger front end and technique
  • A little more quality and lightness in a substantial mare

The ideal Zinedine mare is a big, strong, substantial mare with good bone and plenty of body, but perhaps slightly slow, heavy or lacking blood. Particularly a mare with:

  • A good back and loin connection
  • Plenty of body and good bone
  • A good hind leg
  • A strong temperament, but not overly sharp
  • Good basic jumping ability
  • Some size, if you want a bigger youngster
  • A pedigree that doesn’t excessively duplicate Heartbreaker or Quidam de Revel blood

Be more cautious with a mare who is already:

  • Very light-framed and blood-type
  • Small, or short in the back
  • Very sharp or hot
  • Lacking substance, or weak through the loin
  • Heavily saturated with Guidam, Quidam or Heartbreaker blood

The use of the semen for ICSI or other advanced breeding techniques is only permitted after prior agreement and a separate contract of use.

Chaman

Sire: Baloubet du Rouet
Dam sire: I Love You
Studbook: KWPN
Height: 173cm
Date of birth: 1999
Colour: Bay
WFFS: Negative

With Kaiden GPH, Chowman Z and Chaman’s First Class, the first of Chaman’s highly talented sons have been licensed in the Netherlands and in Germany. Some of his descendants, like Chamano, Chimanski, Chamane, Chabalou, Camel, Caspar JB and Chloé Royal, have had very promising starts to their athletic careers.

Chaman can be counted among the greatest jumper stallions in the world, as his success rate shows. Ridden by Ludger Beerbaum, he won the Masters of Stuttgart, the Grand Prix of Lyon (FRA), Lausanne (SUI), Erbreichsdorf (AUT) and Münster, as well as the Global Champions Tour stage in Vienna (AUT). He also added very respectable placings in Hamburg, Bordeaux (FRA), Chantilly (FRA), Madrid (ESP), Zurich (SUI), Verona (ITA), Leipzig, Hong Kong (HKG), ’s-Hertogenbosch (NED) and Munich (GER). In 2017 Chaman officially retired from competition at the age of 18, with a clean bill of health.

Through his sire Baloubet du Rouet, an Olympic Games winner, three-time World Cup winner and one of the world’s best show jumping sires, and through his dam sire I Love You, Chaman goes back twice to the significant line founder stallion Almé Z. This line is also the origin of the licensed stallion Scandic, who took third place at the European Championships with Patrik Kittel (SWE), the jumper stallion Luidam with Billy Twomey (IRL) and the internationally successful show jumpers Uline and Van Itram.

What Chaman brings to a mare

Chaman is Baloubet du Rouet × I Love You × Lucky Boy xx. His pedigree is exceptionally French and blood-oriented, with Almé Z appearing on both sides and Lucky Boy xx adding further Thoroughbred blood. He was a spectacular 1.60m performer with Ludger Beerbaum, and his breeding appeal is very much around blood, athleticism, scope, stride and modern jumping ability.

An ideal mare for Chaman has plenty of substance, bone and power but could use more blood, modernity and athleticism:

  • Good-sized, substantial mare
  • Good bone and body
  • Strong hindquarters
  • Good back and loin
  • A little slower or heavier in type
  • Good rideability and temperament
  • Scope, but perhaps not the quickest reflexes
  • Strong traditional Holsteiner or German jumping blood

One stud’s breeding recommendation also describes Chaman as suited to smaller, compact mares with a lot of blood, because of his massive canter stride, flexibility and speed. There are two useful ways of using him:

Mare type What Chaman can do
Substantial, powerful mare Adds blood, athleticism, speed and modernity
Small or compact blood mare Adds size, stride and scope
Heavy or old-fashioned type Modernises the model
Very careful but less scopey mare Can add scope and power
Already very light, sharp mare Be cautious

Mares to avoid:

  • Very blood-type and fine
  • Extremely sharp or reactive
  • Small and light-framed
  • Lacking substance, or weak through the topline
  • Already carrying a lot of Baloubet, Almé or I Love You blood

The Almé concentration is worth paying attention to when choosing a mare, because Chaman has Almé through Baloubet and again through his dam sire’s I Love You line.

The semen is not ICSI free.
